Message from Principal

Greetings to all!

First of all, thank you all for seeking admission at North Bengal St. Xavier’s College (Rajganj/Siliguri campus) for the academic session 2023-24. Every year, we await new batch of enthusiastic students from nearby schools and neighbouring districts as well as other states surrounding West Bengal while also opening our doors to candidates from the neighbouring countries seeking to study in this institution. I am proud to state that we are entering into the 17th glorious years of journey of this institution which witnessed about twelve batches of students graduate with flying colours either under the Annual System or the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).

However, from this academic year students pursuing their Undergraduate Degree across most states in India but specifically in West Bengal including colleges like ours under the University of North Bengal will have to undergo 4-Year Undergraduate Program (with multiple entry/exit options). Hence, all students enrolling from this academic year onwards will have to take Major Courses (eg. English Major, History Major, Botany Major etc) and only in the 4th Year they will be allowed to take Honours Degree in the chosen subject/course. Kindly take a note that apart from the existing Honours that have been converted into Major Courses, from the new academic session four new major courses are being introduced at our college: Education Major, Psychology Major, Mathematics Major and Physics Major but there will be no General or Program Course.

There are multiple entry and exit options (kindly check the university website for the details). However, unless it is absolutely necessary under some uncompromising circumstances, it is advisable to not discontinue studies after completing one year or two years (obviously for lack of any job available at present even for graduate and post graduate students!). Hence, at least completing 3 year (6 semester) simple degree is recommended for those unwilling to pursue the rigours of 4th year Honours Program or even beyond - Honours with Research. Our institution will work towards equipping itself with all necessary requirements so that some outstanding and ambitious students may compete their Honours with research and may directly get absorbed into Masters or the doctoral studies as the case may be.

Even as I warmly welcome the freshers who will be joining our college, I, with heavy heart, bid farewell to our dear final year Graduating Students who will be leaving us on completion of their exams. Best wishes to all of you, from the entire college fraternity as you embark on a new journey!

God Bless you all!
